The Nash Restaurant & Offcut Bar
Location: Inglewood, Calgary
Type: Hospitality
Client: Legacy Restaurant Group
Year: 2014
The Nash captures the timeless elegance of Edwardian hotel hospitality. The welcoming lobby features a custom mosaic tile floor, a Victorian brass pendant, and a stained glass partition wall. The dining room is bright and inviting, centered around a rotisserie bar and open kitchen where guests can watch the chefs at work. Historic materials like marble, oak, and brass are used in a fresh, modern way, grounded by a hand-drawn map of early Calgary. Woven linen, reclaimed wood tables, and custom lighting add rich, casual textures with a touch of opulence.
Offcut, meanwhile, channels the darker spirit of the hotel’s past on Atlantic Avenue—once known as “Whiskey Row.” Drawing inspiration from this colorful history, SWI incorporated fumed oak floors resembling whiskey barrels, prohibition-era mug shots, and a black anaglypta ceiling for dramatic effect. Smoky blue tones, caramel woods, a pewter bar top, and shimmering crystal pendants create an atmosphere of moody sophistication. Custom bar tables crafted from salvaged hotel radiators and boxcar wood, and a red-lit storage room, nod to the area’s storied brothel history—elevating the space while celebrating its vibrant roots.
