For Two Penny, the design draws from 1920s Shanghai, where traditional Chinese architecture met the elegance of Art Deco—now known as “Chinese Deco.” Rich textures and timeworn finishes bring a sense of faded glamour to the historic space. Guests enter through a hand-built blackened oak moon gate, a nod to traditional Chinese architecture. Chinese Deco elements echo throughout, from seafoam tiles and wicker caning to brass-inlaid teak doors. A palette of teal, dusty rose, and terracotta enriches velvet and leather finishes. Custom touches—scalloped concrete tiles, fringed pendants, and fan-textured plaster—tie the space to its cultural inspiration with subtle sophistication.
